What is responsive web design?

Responsive web design is an approach to web design aimed at allowing desktop webpages to be viewed in response to the size of the device one is viewing with.

Responsive web design is whereby a designer creates a Web page that “responds to” or resizes itself depending on the type of device it is being seen through.

That could be an oversized desktop computer monitor, a laptop, a 10-inch tablet, a 7-inch tablet, or a 4-inch smartphone screen.

The fluid grid concept calls for page element sizing to be in relative units like percentages, rather than absolute units like pixels or points.

Responsive web design has become more important as the amount of mobile traffic now accounts for more than half of total internet traffic.

Resonsive design now considers building for mobile devices first as the main priority.
