WordPress Website

What Is WordPress?

Wordpress is the most popular website platform in the world.

WordPress is the most popular content management system in existence and is used by over 37% of all websites online.

WordPress is extremely flexible, meaning we have complete control over the design and functionality of your WordPress website and allows us to create truly unique websites.

All our WordPress websites are professionally designed by us.

WP has been developed to become the “go to” platform to build a website for start ups or professionals & has been around since 2003.

On a technical level, WP is an open-source content management system (or for short, CMS) and is mobile device–responsive.

WordPress Features

Edit and publish pages with ease. Add functionality with “plugins”.

WordPress is a website content platform, giving users complete control to edit and publish pages and content.

WP websites use a plugin architecture to customise features to fit your business.

WP is extremely flexible, meaning you have complete control over the design and functionality of your WordPress website.

Plugins can be installed to add image galleries, contact forms and more.

There are over 50,000 plugins, most have free and premium versions available.

The type of website you have mostly determines what plugins you should have on your website.

For a list of available plugins, see the WordPress plugins page.

History of WordPress

WP began as a blogging tool.

Years ago, WP was mainly a tool to create a blog, rather than more traditional websites.

Extensions

Extending “Out of the box” Functions

Joomla has extensions while WordPress calls these plugins.

Joomla extensions are made up of component, module and plugin.

The “Component” sits at the top of the chain and adds functions to Joomla.

Components will contain “modules” that can place the component on different pages or locations within your website pages.

Within “modules” there are “plugins” that can add further function to the component.

Multilingual Support

Unlike WordPress, Joomla has multilingual support built-in to the core.

Open Source

Free, released under a license

Open-source software is a type of computer software in which source code is released under a license in which the copyright holder grants users the rights to study, change, and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose.

Open source attitudes toward the general tech community benefiting from development, flies in the face of organisations who allow you to use their products at expense in a “locked in” proprietary system.

Using open source for a developer gives confidence with use & that things won’t change over night & at expense.

To license community binary source code access means we don’t own it, but don’t need a legal team to shape it to our needs.
